The city is a heritage of the past, continuously transformed in the present and imagined for the future. It evolves through the ways in which each generation inhabits, uses, and perceives it, expressed through architectural languages that may be simple or complex, ancient or contemporary, repetitive or entirely new.

FGArchitecture and Paola Ferreira (Director&Founder) believe in the relationship between the built and its context, and in the intrinsic connections embedded within the urban fabric. Every building forms part of a wider network of places, histories, memories, and relationships that give meaning to the city.

We believe in the genius loci — the “spirit of the place” — and in the importance of understanding the qualities that already exist within a site before intervening in it.

Architecture should not be indifferent to what is already built. Equally, it should not be constrained by it. We believe in an architecture that is attentive to its surroundings while remaining open and flexible enough to establish a new dialogue between the contemporary and the existing.

Because ultimately, everything is built within the built.
